Hare & Hounds Bakery sits just off Cowbridge’s High Street, tucked behind a quiet alleyway that locals seem to know well. This cafe and bakery feels like a natural stop for those looking to escape the bustle of the main shopping thoroughfare and settle into something more relaxed and unhurried.

Inside, the atmosphere balances simplicity with warmth—the kind of space where regulars might bring their dogs along for company, and where the staff greet newcomers with an easy friendliness that feels genuine rather than rehearsed. The scent of freshly baked goods mingles with high-quality coffee aromas, anchoring this as a spot ideal for a mid-morning break or a casual lunch away from the usual crowds.

Locals appreciate Hare & Hounds for its straightforward menu that showcases dependable favourites alongside a few more unexpected items like the parsnip soup of the day or a lemon meringue cruffin. The sausage rolls and almond croissants have a loyal following here, each bite speaking to well-sourced, locally produced ingredients rather than over fancy kitchen tricks. Coffee drinkers particularly note the quality of the roast, with some mentioning a preference for espresso-based drinks crafted with care, although the flat white’s hotter-than-expected handleless mug might take some getting used to.

There’s a casual vibe that fits well with the surrounding neighbourhood—a small town with enough foot traffic to feel connected but not overwhelmed. Free parking just a few yards away adds convenience for those driving in, making Hare & Hounds a reliable stop whether you’re on a weekend wander or grabbing a coffee before heading to a meeting downtown.

Ultimately, this is a place for people who enjoy a quiet pause in their day, maybe accompanied by a dog or a friend, where the focus is on solid, tasty baking and coffee rather than flashy innovation. The tucked-away location invites discovery but also rewards repeat visits, especially for those living locally or passing through Cowbridge with time to appreciate a genuinely well-made almond croissant or sausage roll paired with a thoughtful cup of coffee.

Fantastic ! The staff were super friendly and dogs are allowed in. The food was super all locally produced and the coffee was excellent quality. We ordered an almond croissant and 2 sausage rolls which were really tasty. I would live in here if we were closer.

Recommend by a friend to come here and have a coffee as I was coming into town for a meeting! Lovely coffee really enjoy hard lines beans! Found the glass flat white mug incredibly hot to the touch to pick up as it doesn't have a handle. The plain butter croissant was amazing crispy outter layers and lovely and moist inside

Fantastic little bakery with a great selection of baked produce. Sausage rolls, croissants and cakes all delicious. They also serve coffee and a few other things (including some amazing cheeses) There's a free car park a couple of hundred yards down the road too

Decent coffee and pastries. The white sourdough is a standout. Very good brunch food.
